Guptar Ghat

Guptar Ghat Ayodhya

About Guptar Ghat

Guptar Ghat is a sacred site located on the banks of the Saryu River where, according to Hindu mythology, Lord Ram took 'Jal Samadhi' (leaving the mortal world by entering the holy waters). The name 'Guptar' comes from the word 'Gupt' meaning hidden, as it's believed Lord Ram disappeared at this spot.

Historical Significance

The site features three temples dedicated to Lord Ram, Lakshman, and Goddess Sita. The main temple was built during the 1800s by the Maharaja of Ayodhya. The architectural style reflects both Nagara and colonial influences, making it a unique historical monument.
